When it comes to home design, there’s Hot and there’s Not

What’s Hot

by Shane Bierly

Outdoor Living – Entertaining doesn’t always happen indoors. Courtyards with fireplaces, seating and water features provide a great place to entertain and relax with guests no matter what the season. In some cases, home owners are bringing the comforts of indoor living spaces outdoors. Items like refrigerators, wine coolers and sinks are being duplicated outdoors for a “resort-like” feature in your own backyard.

Home Entertainment – If the weather or season prevents you from outdoor entertaining, there is still plenty to do indoors. Entertaining is easy with a game room or home theater. Gaining popularity, home theaters are a great place to catch the game or have a movie night. Featuring stadium-like seating, wet bars, popcorn machines and projector TVs, home theaters are a great place to gather. In addition, game rooms are perfect for friends and family to play a round of pool, cards or have family game night.

What’s Not

Low-Tech Appliances – Ditch your mother’s refrigerator and go high-tech. Ovens and Refrigerators how have cameras, TVs and even Apps – all of which can make you and your family’s life easier. See what’s inside your fridge without opening it with an internal mount camera and outside monitor. Programmable ovens can now sense how long items need to be heated for – just place and walk away!

Cold Rooms – Fireplaces are no longer for Dens or Living Rooms. Create a space like a private retreat in your master bathroom with a fireplace. While you are at it, throw in a whirlpool tub for a warm and relaxing place to unwind.

Your home is a reflection of you and your family. Create the space that best suits your wants and needs. Don’t be afraid to think outside the box and bring the indoors outdoors, or, create a rec space for your friends and family to gather and entertain. All that matters is that you create spaces that help bring people together and create long-lasting memories.
